That is why people with a mutation in the gene CHRNA3 find it much more difficult to quit smoking!

On the other hand, if you are among the lucky 38% of the world population that carry two favourable copies of the CHRNA3 gene (genes come in pairs, remember?), you’ll have a low risk of nicotine addiction! Having this genetic makeup and not smoking means there will be a lower chance that you’ll become addicted to nicotine. This does not mean you should start smoking though. We advise you not to!

However, if you already smoke and discover you have the favourable genes for nicotine addiction, it’ll be easier for you to give up smoking!
